Sessions

$350 for Lifestyle Family Photography

How is Lifestyle Photography different from Traditional Portrait Photography?

Almost every family photographer you ask will answer this question differently, so here is my vision of Lifestyle Photography.  I make images that show who you are, rather than what you look like. What that means to me is capturing authentic moments in a setting that is familiar to your family, while you are in action. Walking, sliding, playing, building, laughing, cooking, eating, talking, coloring, exploring.. Will I stop you and tell you to look at the camera? Don’t expect it.  Will I say or do things that will cause you to look at me? Count on it. I make images that tell your story.

What does the session fee include?

All session fees include a pre-session consultation, my photography time/talent, post-processing of images, travel up to 40 miles roundtrip from Edmonds, and a password-protected gallery where you will be able to digitally download your high resolution files to share or print.

Because I believe that images should be printed, so you and your children can hold them and love them, you will also receive a 4 X 6 print of each image in your gallery, printed at my professional processing lab.

How long after my session can I see my online gallery?

Within 24 hours of the session I will send you a sneak peak image, usually on Facebook. Within 2 weeks of the session, a password protected  link to your online gallery of 30-40 edited images will be emailed to you.

Do you have recommendations for where we can get our files printed?

Absolutely!  I highly recommend having your images printed at a professional printing lab. Your online gallery will allow you (or your family members)  to order additional prints and enlargements that are  mounted on single weight mat board. They look beautiful, and are made to last. Where you print your images really does make a difference.  The big name stores are cheaper, but that comes at the cost of quality. If you would like to order your own prints, the processing lab I would recommend would be Mpix, with lustre coating that protects against fingerprints and UV exposure.

Where does the session take place?

Family sessions take place on location at a place that has meaning to your family.  It can be in your home, your backyard, a local park or playground, the beach, Woodland Park Zoo… wherever your family likes to spend time together.  I aim to make the location a part of your story, so we will talk about options in our pre-session consultation.

What time of day is best for the session?

Well that all depends on the ages of your children, and if they are morning people or afternoon people.  Well fed and rested kids make for happy kids. Happy kids make for naturally happy images. Hoping that a child will want to interact or be happy when it’s nap time—not so much. Seattle area weather and natural light can change dramatically from season to season, so we will take that into account, too, when scheduling your session.

How long do sessions last?

Family sessions generally last between 1-2 hours. I like to interact with your children before I start shooting, to give them a chance to get to know me, and for me to do a little playing. I will have asked you about their likes, interests, and personalities  before the session, so I’ll have a jumping off point before we start.

 What should we wear?

First and foremost—something comfortable, that you and the kids can move around in. I will do the same. As far as colors go, it’s best to avoid solid hot pink, bright orange, or bright red —these colors can really effect skin tones. Also remember that if the shirt has a big logo or words on it, those words will be in most every image.  On the other hand,  if your child is going through a Superhero phase and that logo defines this time in their life, that can be both meaningful and adorable.   Side note— if your child has a favorite blanket or lovey toy that they take everywhere—bring it. It will make them comfortable, and you will want to remember this time when they wouldn’t let it go—as it will be gone before you know it.

$400 for Newborn/Baby Lifestyle Photography

What can I expect in a BABY session?

My lifestyle newborn sessions capture the tiny details of this new light in your life. The connections that already bind you together, in such a short amount of time..His tiny fist wrapped around  Mommy’s finger… How her whole body fits so perfectly on Daddy’s arm…Kisses on the top of his head…The swirl of her hair on the back of her head… How tiny he looks in his crib…Her outstretched arm when she yawns.. Those eyelashes… How you look at each other when you hold her together.. Watching him sleep.. These are the moments that don’t need to be posed or directed, they are simply how you are now—as a a family. And of course, big brothers and sisters will be included in the new baby shoot.

When and where do newborn sessions usually take place?

My newborn sessions are done in your home, and  typically happen within a month of your baby’s arrival. As a natural light photographer, when I arrive at your home we will look for those spaces that bring in natural light. Typical settings include the living room, the master bedroom, and the nursery.  Don’t be surprised when you see me taking pictures of little details all around.. the onesie on the back of the chair.. the books on the bookshelf..the little shoes in the nursery.. the “Welcome Baby Girl” balloons tied to the mailbox.. I notice all of this..  these images are all part of your story.

How long do the newborn sessions last?

I allow 1 1/2 -2 hours for a newborn session to allow for diaper changes, feeding, soothing, and the unexpected that can be expected with a newborn baby. No worries if he is crying..or if she is fussy.. or if she sleeps the whole time.. This session is all about your baby, and it is he or she who runs the show.

What if my house doesn’t look like House Beautiful?

Trust me, neither does mine.  Not even close. If there are piles of laundry in the background I will move my position to avoid them, or will ask permission before I go moving them around. It is my job to pay attention to the details, and yours to pay attention to this precious baby…and sometimes what you might consider messy, I will consider signs of having a new baby in the house-and just may take a picture of it, too.

How do I schedule a session around my due date?

Once you schedule your session and  tell me your due date, I will reserve several options for time slots within a month on either side of that date.  You will send me an email when the baby arrives (I will do my Happy Dance,) and once you get home we can consider options and schedule your session.

Do you use props for your sessions?

No, my style is natural and candid.  That usually means images with your baby either in a diaper,  nude, or wrapped in the way that you know makes him or her comfortable—in a blanket or wrap that has meaning to you.

Do you offer Milestone sessions in my baby’s first year?

Yes, contact me to discuss Moments From the First Year plan options.
